Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest and most celebrated classical dance traditions of India, originating in Tamil Nadu. It is renowned for its geometric lines, intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and deep spiritual foundation, blending rhythm, emotion, and devotion into a powerful performance tradition.
Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Chennai, Tamil Nadu—the heartland of Bharatanatyam—Varshini began her training in this classical art form at the age of four, nurturing a passion that continues to shape her life. With 18 years of rigorous training, she completed her Arangetram in 2021 under Ms. Preeti Vinayak in Atlanta and has since performed in both solo and ensemble settings, including with the Sanskar Dance Team at NJIT.
She is currently continuing her training under Smt. Dr. Jyolsana Menon in Chennai, India, and practices the Kalakshetra bani of Bharatanatyam.
In India, Varshini has performed at Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru in 2011 and 2012, as well as during the Margazhi season at venues such as Mahalingapuram Ayyappan Temple and Kapaleeshwarar Temple.
In the United States, she has appeared on stages including Gibney Studio on Broadway as part of Navaratri celebrations in 2022 and 2024. She has also presented her solo debut performances in both Manhattan and Jersey City, marking significant milestones in her artistic journey.
Varshini is also the co-founder of Jersey Adavu, a Bharatanatyam community in Jersey City, envisioned as a space to nurture learning, artistic growth, and meaningful cultural connection through the classical arts. She also curates Kutty Katcheri, an intimate community concert initiative that celebrates South Asian music and performance while bringing people together through the arts.
Beyond dance, she holds a Master's degree in Computer Networking and works as a Network Engineer.
